This is the second edition of the Order of Service of the Celestial Church of Christ in the CCC Worldwide Community library. It follows the order of service used across the Church, with hymn numbers from the English Hymn Book (E.H.B.), for Service Conductors, Shepherds and every member who wants to follow the worship step by step. “Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein” (Jeremiah 6:16).

Service times are the same LOCAL time in every country (the 5:30 AM Morning Service is 5:30 AM where you are).

Part 1: Standard texts and rules of worship

The CCC Prayer Pattern

Every prayer in the Celestial Church of Christ follows this order:

  1. Open with the CCC Prayer Key, the three Holy Names: “Jehovah! Jesus Christ! Holy Michael!”
  2. Pray.
  3. Close with “In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
  4. Praise God with seven Halleluyahs: Halleluyah! Halleluyah! Halleluyah! Halleluyah! Halleluyah! Halleluyah! Halleluyah!

When the bell rings

At each ring of the bell for worship, every member bows down and says: “Holy! Holy! Holy! is the Lord God of Hosts.” (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give me this day my daily bread, and forgive me my trespasses, as I forgive those who trespass against me. And lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil: for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Gloria

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the Celestial Church of Christ; the Communion of Saints; the forgiveness of sins; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn of adoration (call and response)

Used at the New Moon, Holy Communion and End of the Year services. Each line is sung three times; R = the congregation’s response.

  • God Almighty, God Almighty, God Almighty, the King of life
  • Holy, Holy, Holy is the King of the angels
  • Bow down for Him, the King of all people. R: I bow down to Him.
  • Hi rah jah man jari bam, Hi rah jah man: Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, descend now
  • Yah Go Lolah Mari Yah Nga Rih Yeh. R: Yah Go Lolah Mari Yeh.
  • Pay homage to the King, our Lord. R: We pay homage to Him. Amen.

The holy words

The holy words of the Church are said exactly as given and are never translated: Eyiba, Jehovah Ramah, Agashadual, Eliya, Jehovah Lass, Eli Bamah / Eli Yabah, Jerih Moh Yamah, Yarah Rah Sarah, Yah Raman, Jehovah Chekohiram, Elohim Jah, El Beraca, Alfaji Ara-Hach, Belele a o na Bonono. When the Service Conductor calls a holy word three times, the congregation answers “Holy” each time.

Important rules

  1. The Service Conductor sanctifies himself, keeping away from every impurity for three days before the Lord’s Day or any other service day (Exodus 19:10-15), and is fully in the Spirit, as is expected of priests.
  2. All elders wear the robes of their rank, as the tenets of the Church lay down; on Sundays and New Year’s Day they wear full regalia.
  3. Every member who can read should make a habit of reading the Bible, so that no one is embarrassed when called to read.
  4. The Bible passage is always the theme of the sermon. Preachers must not condemn any other religion or faith, and sermons stay out of politics.
  5. Noise, loitering and needless discussions or meetings during service hours are an abomination to God (Ecclesiastes 5:1-3).
  6. Members always wear a sutana that covers their nakedness (Revelation 3:18).
  7. Painting the lips and nails is not allowed in the house of God; only moderate, decent dress (1 Timothy 2:9-10).
  8. At a normal service, musical instruments are used from the collection to the end of the thanksgiving offerings; at other times only the organ is played.
  9. At harvest, naming, wedding and birthday services instruments are allowed, but everything is done solemnly and in order. On every occasion, singing and instruments stop from “Yarah Rah Sarah” to “O Christ, my King”.
  10. Choose each hymn for the type of service and the Bible passage: for example, do not sing a victory song in place of a blessing song, or the other way round.

New Moon Service

Once a month: members gather at 10:00 PM; the service begins at exactly 12 midnight, local time.
Each member brings one bottle filled with water and one candle. At 10:00 PM the Shepherd kneels where the small altar usually stands and all sing Hymn 172 (E.H.B.), “Let us work for the purification of our souls”; the Shepherd prays in thanksgiving. Singing, drumming and dancing follow until 11:45 PM, when each member prays silently with their candle for their heart’s desire. The candles are then lit in sevens: on the main altar, around the men’s bottles of water, around the women’s bottles of water, around the house of worship and on the Mercy Land altar; spare candles are kept for later services.
The Shepherd-in-charge conducts the service from the main altar; the small altar is removed for this service.

Naming Ceremony

On the eighth day after birth. Naming on the eighth day is compulsory by the tenet of the Celestial Church of Christ; there is no naming service after the eighth day and no postponement.
Materials: seven kinds of fruit, salt, honey, sugar, two packets of candles, and incense. The parents dress the baby in a sutana and bring the baby to church. The mother sits at a distance from the house of worship and does not touch any holy item (candles, incense, holy oil) on this day.
Seven candles stand in a white basin; three are lit before the service and the other four with the altar candles, and clean water is then poured into the basin. A prophet carries a boy and a prophetess carries a girl; if none is available, a member of the child’s sex carries the baby with a prophet or prophetess beside them. The Shepherd sanctifies the carrier and the child. The carrier must be in the Spirit, with the Incense Bearer on the right and the basin carrier on the left. If the baby cannot be brought on the eighth day, a candle marked with seven crosses and wrapped in white cloth is carried instead, and the baby tastes the honey, salt and sugar wherever they are that day.

    1. 1
The Holy Names are called: “Jehovah, Jesus Christ, Holy Michael”.

    Baptism

At a stream or river, then back in the church.
A candidate must have been a Celestial member for at least one year, must fully know the tenets of the Church, and must show the fruit of the Spirit after the Shepherd’s teaching on the Word and on baptism. Shepherds are seriously warned not to baptise anyone with less than one year, and must not be pressured into baptising unqualified members. Only full-time workers from the rank of Assistant Evangelist upward may baptise. Women must not wear see-through clothing. The Shepherd must be in the Spirit. Before the baptism the Shepherd and elders inspect the stream (it must not be too deep), and an elder keeps watch and assists throughout.

Washing of Feet and Holy Communion (Thursday of Passion Week)

Thursday of Passion Week, conducted by the Shepherd.
Every Shepherd, with one senior man and two senior women from each parish worldwide, attends the feet washing held on the Saturday before Passion Week at the International Headquarters, Ketu, Lagos, conducted by the Rev. Pastor at the Mercy Land; they take home sanctified water for the parish feet washing on Thursday. On Palm Sunday at the International Headquarters the Rev. Pastor gives Holy Communion, and Shepherds collect the Holy Communion items for their parishes. Lent: all members fast and pray from the Monday after Palm Sunday to Saturday. On the Saturday of Passion Week members gather at the National Headquarters, Makoko, Lagos, by 8:00 PM, light their candles by 10:00 PM and process to the cemetery with singing, dancing and drumming, led by the Rev. Pastor.
Passion Week is a week of sober reflection, when sinners put on the garment of repentance; all members obey the rules of sanctification and dress modestly. No one who is not baptised in the Celestial Church may take Holy Communion; only Shepherds and church workers may touch the Communion items and utensils, and no woman may come close to them or touch them.
